Gruesome Dinner 2015

DEATH AT THE DOUBLE D RANCH

It’s the old Wild West and local ranch owner, Dray Duncan, is holding his annual Barn Party Barbeque. Just as the guests are arriving, poor Dray is found dead in the bunkhouse. Things look mighty confusin’; sumthin’ don’t add up. Did he die from natural causes or could this be a case of homicide at the hoedown? Help Sheriff Remington and the rest of his posse figure out what really happened!

The Suspects

Sheriff Remmington

He is the only lawman in town. He has been summoned here to the Double D Ranch to investigate a death...the death of Dray Duncan.

Sum Ting

Raised in the Orient, he was originally apprenticed with his father as a cobbler before training professionally as a chef and coming to this country. He speaks with a Chinese accent and sometimes breaks into a fully unrecognisable language when he gets excited. He is very proud of his cooking abilities and mention them all the time.

Poncho Sanchez

Since he grew up in Mexico and has the appearance of a peasant, people often consider you dim-witted, but he is very astute. He speaks with a Spanish accent and uses Spanish words now and then while speaking. He walks with a slow shuffle and is never in a hurry to do anything

Ace Holdem

Rambler, gambler and drifter, he makes his living by being a rover and con man. Hitting a “mark” and leaving town until the debt is due is how he does his business. He has the habit of shuffling his deck of cards and is always asking people if they’d be up for a friendly game of poker. He also have a habit of stroking his moustache when he is telling a lie.

Dusty Trales

He has been on his own since he was eighteen and is totally self-reliant. He is a ladies man and can charm most any woman over the age of 18 with his “sweet” talk.  He lays it on thick tonight with the ladies, especially Phoebe!  He has have a tendency to pat men on their shoulders and women on their backsides. It’s just his friendly gestures toward people.

Phoebe Duncan

Being the daughter of Dray Duncan, the richest rancher in town, she is used to getting her own way and has developed an abrupt, impatient way with other people. She tends to try and be smarter than everyone else and sometimes make up words that sound “fancy.”  She is extremely attracted to Dusty Trales.

Poccamahinee

Since she is the daughter of your tribe’s Chief, Redfeather, she is regarded as a Princess by her Apache Tribe. She relies on her beauty and her short skirts to attract attention, especially from men! Now and then she breaks out in a ritual dance and does a chant.

Chief Redfeather

He is new to the English language and speaks in broken sentences; sometimes using the wrong verb tenses. He is very proud and stands with his arms crossed or sits with his legs folded in front of him and arms folded. He is a man of few words, but when he does speak, he talk as if whatever he is saying has taken a great deal of thought.

Purdy Filly

Growing up locally under poor circumstances on her father’s small farm, she has become a party girl due to his position at Miss Lucy’s saloon. Her motto in life is, “There’s no time like the present.” Life is too short not to live it up! She loves to dance and never hesitates to kick upher legs at every opportunity. She considers each new acquaintance a prospective friend and never knows a stranger.

Jenny Jenkins

People consider her very genteel and well educated since she grew up one county over and had a full 13 years of schooling. She has  been the local school marm for years, but you she has a  wild side that she seldom let show. She likes to snap her leather strap to get peoples attention when she is about to speak. She has the annoying habit of raising her hand when others are speaking and then interrupting them in mid-sentence.

Lucy Lipps

Since she is the owner of the local saloon, she has developed a boisterous, playful manner and never knows a stranger. It helps with the customers! She always walks swaying her hips from side to side in an exaggerated manner. With her common upbringing, she usually talks in a common manner.

Sheriff Remmington's final speech after guests have tried to guess who the murderer is

Well, well, well. What ah thought was a routine death has turned out ta be quite a puzzlin’ murder.  Dray Duncan was murdered an’ by one of you!  Now, if y’all remember, the final autopsy revealed that he died from ingestin’ poison... arsenic to be exact!  Question is, who could’ve poisoned Dray?  Strange as it may seem, that’s where the footprints on the bunkhouse floor come into play.   Y’see, we all know Poccamahinee swept an’ mopped the bunkhouse floor earlier today.  That means the footprints in there were made after that and were either left by Dray, the suspects in this murder or the actual killer.  By a simple process of elimination, we know that Jenny, Ace, Lucy an’ Redfeather weren’t in the bunkhouse tonight.  An’ although Redfeather was seen buyin’ arsenic in town, ah don’t think he woulda used that ta do in Dray, he uses it for tannin’ his leather hides! So, since you are no longer suspects, you are free to go.
Now that leaves Purdy, Poncho, Sum Ting, Poccamahinee, Dusty an’ Phoebe as the last remainin’suspects in this murder an’ I found prints of alla their footwear on the bunkhouse floor to substantiate this fact.  But, Purdy’s prints were only in the doorway, so she never really entered the bunkhouse.  An’ Poncho’s sandal prints were left after Dray was already dead, as we know.  Poccamahinee was in there before Dray but she left before he came in. An’ Dusty Trales prints were there, but we all know he was at the main house talkin’ to Phoebe when Dray left to go to the bunkhouse. An’ poor Phoebe didn’t kill her father...he was dead when she went to fetch him.
An’ that, ladies ‘n’ gennelmen, just leaves Sum Ting as the only soul that could’ve done it.   Sum Ting was fed up with his life of miserable poverty on the Double D Ranch, but he was promised a large payment upon Dray’s death.  When he overheard Dusty an’ Phoebe talkin’ about ‘tonight’s the night’, he saw his opportunity to use them as decoy suspects to commit his crime.  Phoebe saw Sum Ting put some ‘seasonin’ from a small bottle into the barbeque sauce that he was takin’ to Dray.  An’ Poccamahinee saw Sum Ting puttin’ arsenic into the same small bottle.  Sum Ting was the last person ta see Dray alive an’ murdered him for revenge an’ for money, with arsenic in the barbeque sauce!     Sum Ting, you are under arrest, put your hands up and keep ‘em real high!  The rest of y’all are free ta go!   Case Solved
